A Parliament of Chickens

Yesterday I found two chickens -both broody - trying to squeeze into the same laying box. One was sitting on the other's head. They were competing for eggs laid by another hen.

Act and United Future?

The two roosters are engaging with each other quite aggressively. The young one is trying to gather a new flock. There's plenty of food around and they aren't dependent on the welfare system- me - so they can enter into these little psycho dramas. The young rooster just attacks blindly and the more craven and self aggrandising of the hens follow him. The older rooster looks after the hens and gives them approval when they lay eggs.

I am going to get rid of the young rooster to put in an Indian truck driver's pot. I don't like this division and can play God with my little society.

Do these rooster represent National and Labour or NZ First and National? Or just internal fighting for the leadership within Labour?

The sick chicken is getting better daily and can see out of both eyes. I have let her loose and she found her way back to the coop. She is going to struggle to make her way, but the other hens and the older rooster don't attack her. The young rooster does- he doesn't know any other way to behave. Maybe she's the New Zealand public.

These analagies could go on but I'll leave the political commentary to the people who do it best.

However I would love the opportunity to vote on the commentators! Maybe we could have a referendum.

The good news is that the pecked chicken has survived in a supportive environment and I have been able to provide it for her.
