1- At last- another FYO day. I've had heaps of people asking me about it. So, I've made up a special blend (about half Dolcetto and half Sangiovese) which is looking pretty good.
When? Sunday, Feb 24, from 9:30am until mid-afternoon.
Cost? $11.99 for a minimum of 6 bottles. But the more the merrier. It will have been about 3 months since the last one, so you should have plenty of bottles! Don and Greg will be in attendance- so it's the usual cast....
ME magazine, a NZ publication based around young, creative NZers- sometimes sporty, is doing a photo shoot this Sunday at our place. They are spending the weekend in the Bay of Islands and want to travel back to participate in our last 'Tuscan Sunday' for the summer.
The subjects of the shoot are 3 NZers whom you may have heard of: Ben Smith and Beauden Barrett (ABs) and Blair Tuke (who won a silver medal in last years olympics in yachting).
This Sunday, January 27, will be the last of our 'Tuscan Sundays'. Rob is here with his wood-fired pizzas from 11am- 4pm. And our wine and grape juices will be available all at cellar door prices.
This is a great opportunity to wander around the vineyard and see what's happening with our new systems. Or just hang about with friends and family.
2010 was a great summer. Hot and dry for about 3 months. We made our most recent reserve Sangiovese $55) from that year. And it's a fine wine- as they say.
Merry Christmas everyone- although coming from the northern hemisphere it still seems strange to be celebrating this in the heat!
1- we are continually asked to re-open our original small cafe. Don't just have a cellar door- have food and allow us to sit outside the back like we used to. Well, this is more complex than people realize. We need licenses for handling the food, for selling the food, for selling alcohol- to the Health Dept, to the local Council etc. etc. And all of this is expensive- of course.
Rob has just contacted us to say that he would like to bring his mobile wood-fired pizza oven to this Sunday's Fill Your Own bottle day.
This is great news- and will show all of us who tried to use his oven over Labour Weekend how it really works. He was doing 750 a day down at the Viaduct for the Rugby World Cup!
Rob will be serving wood-fired pizzas from late morning. $10 a pizza- and well worth it.
Just a quick reminder about this Sunday's 'Fill Your Own Bottle' day. All the details are set out under 'Events' on our homepage, if you don't know what this is. I've just been tasting the blend and, as I mentioned previously, I inadvertently included a barrel of one of our premium wines. So it tastes even better than normal!
If I can, I'll also have a few cases of some of our older wines available for sale.
We're heading out the door to go to the 'Taste Auckland' wine and food festival starting tonight and running until Sunday. It should be fun. This will be our third year attending. It's at Victoria Park and well worth visiting.
However, before we leave the premises, I thought I'd better give everyone some notice about the last FYO before Christmas. This will be held:
This is just a quick note to say that Webb's fine wine auction on this Monday evening has a case of our 2004 Sangiovese available. It's rare that our wines come up for auction, but as this was a terrific wine, I thought some of you may be interested.
