Welcome to Heron's Flight
In March 2010, after 20 years of winemaking at Heron's Flight, David Hoskins and Mary Evans formed a new affiliation with Clyde and Farida Cooper, of Runner Duck Estate. Farida and Clyde chose New Zealand to settle after establishing and selling a very successful courier business in India. They fell in love with Matakana, where they have a vineyard, Runner Duck Estate.
Heron’s Flight Restaurant & Winemakers’ Centre has evolved
into a showcase for Runner Duck
and Heron’s Flight Wines. The two vineyards specialize in the silky
reds for which Matakana is renowned. Runner Duck Estate Vineyard
planted French varietals, from which they produced, in 2007 after
twenty months in oak, a savoury Syrah and a dark cherry red blend
of cabernet franc, merlot, malbec, petit verdot and pinotage. Both
of these wines retail for $39.00 a bottle. At Heron’s Flight Vineyard
we are continuing our adventures with Italian varietals Sangiovese
and Dolcetto. Currently we are selling spicy Dolcetto 2008 for
$39, exotic Il Rosso 2008 for $29.50
and opulent Sangiovese 2005
for $50.
The restaurant is specializing in fresh local produce crafted
by our chefs, Kahui Cassidy and
Su-Ah Baik. Together we are developing
the culinary gardens and landscape to make it more accessible for
indoor/outdoor events, and to reinforce our support for food biodiversity,
small-scale food producers; language, culture and traditional knowledge,
and environmentally responsible food production.
To show our commitment to these values, and to welcome Clyde and Farida into our community, we have organised some special events over the winter to celebrate our new beginnings and to acknowledge what has have gone before us. Click on the links below to see what we are offering.
Fantastic offer – go into the draw for a
free meal for two including wine for 12 months!
